What Should You Do After Graduation?

Deregistration of those who want to leave Turkey

After a long struggle, you graduate and with its excitement, some forgetfulness is observed. Of course, the first thing to do is to deregister. This process is almost the same in every university, there may be minor differences. To deregister, first you get a signature from the relevant departments stating that you have no debts to places such as the library and dormitory. Your diploma is ready and in very rare cases, if it is not ready, you are given a temporary graduation certificate. After receiving your diploma and its supplement (some universities may not have a supplement), you must have 5-6 copies of it stamped and signed by the university's Student Affairs Office on both the copies of the diploma and the supplement. Those who do not receive the stamp can also have it stamped by notaries, but it requires a lot of money. Get 5-6 official transcripts and have one of them Apostille stamped. Make sure to have one of the copies of the diploma and, if applicable, the supplement Apostille stamped for Azerbaijan or the country you are targeting at the nearest regional office. Please note that documents are apostilled according to the country. That is, you cannot use the document you apostilled for Azerbaijan for Russia. For countries that are not included in the apostille, have it certified by the embassies of the relevant country (e.g. United Arab Emirates). It is advisable not to provide the original diploma for apostille because they stamp, fold, and staple, making the mother of the document cry, even if figuratively. Especially those with a European plan should definitely get a CRIMINAL REGISTER covering the years they studied with their passport. Certificates from the student associations you are a part of should also be among the documents you will definitely get.

Those who want to stay in Turkey after graduation

Students who have graduated from a university in Turkey can obtain a one-time residence permit for a maximum of 1 year from the Short-Term Residence Permit category before or within 6 months of the end of their student stay. This residence permit type includes a card fee and a tuition fee (70 $ for Azerbaijani citizens). In the meantime, you can look for a job and apply for citizenship and a work permit.

Students may also have the right to apply for citizenship after graduation. You can use this right if you have stayed in Turkey for a total of 4 years without interruption within 5 years from the date you applied for the Turkish citizenship. You cannot use this right while your student residence permit is active, but you have the right to apply after receiving the type of residence permit mentioned above.

Give a power of attorney to someone you trust.

Even though the vast majority of students graduate and leave, they still have a job in Turkey. Therefore, giving someone a power of attorney in Turkey will make your work much easier. Although the powers of attorney obtained from Azerbaijan are legally valid, it takes special patience to explain them to some government agencies in Turkey. They do not treat powers of attorney obtained from Turkey in the same way and accept them with force.
